Find Content (NAV-WEB-005)
Give users more than one way to find content
Accessibility is about accommodating all users. This guideline focuses on accommodating different user's preferred method of navigating a site. For instance, a sitemap can simplify the process of finding a page in a complex site for a user with a cognitive disability. Search can be a faster method of finding content for screen reader users who do not wish to browse each page looking for specific information. Use at least two of these methods to provide users with more than one way to find content, unless the site is composed of 4 pages or fewer:
- Links to navigate to related web pages
- Table of contents
- Site map
- Search function
- List of links to all other web pages
- Linking to all of the pages on the site from the home page
Requirements
More Than One Way to Find Content (NAV-WEB-005-01)
Users MUST be provided more than one way to find content within a website except when the web page is the result of a step or process. This provision MUST include two or more of the following navigational methods, unless the site is composed of 4 pages or fewer:
- Links to navigate to related Web pages
- a Table of Contents
- a Site Map
- a Search Function
- a List of links to all other Web pages
- Linking to all of the pages on the site from the home page
Test Procedures
Visual Inspection (NAV-WEB-005-01-T)
Confirm that the site provides at least 2 of the following ways to find content (unless the page is a step in or result of a process):
Exception: Small sites (4 pages or fewer) can meet this requirement if the main navigation menu links to all other pages.
